Transfer Learning of Individualized Treatment Rules from Experimental to Real-World Data

Individualized treatment effect lies at the heart of precision medicine. Interpretable individualized rules (ITRs) are desirable for clinicians or policymakers due to their intuitive appeal and transparency. The gold-standard approach estimating ITRs is randomized experiments, where subjects different groups confounding bias minimized extent possible. However, experimental studies limited in external validity because selection restrictions, therefore underlying study population not representative target real-world population. Conventional learning methods optimal interpretable a based only on data biased. On other hand, (RWD) becoming popular provide sample To learn generalizable ITRs, we propose an integrative transfer method weighting schemes calibrate covariate distribution experiment that RWD. Theoretically, establish risk consistency proposed ITR estimator. Empirically, evaluate finite-sample performance learner through simulations apply it real application job training program.
